Mejii Shrine
Mejii is a Shinto Shrine, it is surrounded by a literal forest, absolutely beautiful peaceful place in middle of Tokyo, closest subway stop is off JR Yamanote LIne at Harajuku stop. Mejii is considered a sacred area so please observe rules while visiting and a forewarning no photos of the actual shrine, there is a guard who will scold you plus there is a sign posted advising not to take pics. I guess I was a little late in seeing sign. If you visit web site which I didn't find until our return there is a page dedicated to etiquette while visiting.
